_{StopThePain is a deviantART group set-up for the purpose of raising awareness of child-abuse and neglect. We aim to provide an outlet of not only information, but also a vast array of inspirational/emotional art and writings. The group is for both young and old... children and parents... anyone who has ever suffered from abuse, or has something to say about it.}

Is there really a problem?

One in six children are sexually abused before the age of sixteen.
Only a quarter of children who are sexually abused tell anyone about it. Of these, most tell a family member or friend. Very few come to the attention of police, social services or health professionals.

Because very few of the cases of child abuse come to the attention to those who could make a difference, people go about their daily lives believing that there is not problem but this is not true.

Millions of children are exposed to abuse, violence, exploitation and neglect. That's appalling.

But again nothing is done.

Child labour

An estimated 8.4 million children are trapped in the worst forms of child labour. Child labour involves children living in slavery-like conditions, separated from their families or exposed to serious danger and illness. These children age from 5-14. Try to think what it would be like to be taken from your family at such a young age and thrown into a world you do not understand. Imagine what it would be like waking at 5am every day to be forced to work with hardly any breaks or sleep.

Millions of children are engaged in hazardous situations or conditions, such as working in mines, working with chemicals and pesticides in agriculture or working with dangerous machinery. They are everywhere but invisible, toiling as domestic servants in homes, labouring behind the walls of workshops, hidden from view in plantations.

The sadist fact is not that the children are taken from their families but many are sold into labour by parents who are desperate and believe this life would be best for their child.

Show you are against child labour but support groups such as Unicef who help those children who are forced to live in conditions which are dangerous to their lives and health. Together we can make a difference.
